Immortality

After three years of service, my old piece of machinery can no longer keep up, and it is time for a replacement.

To allow more customization and because I lack the funds to do otherwise, I'm gonna buy all parts individually, and with Waxbear by my side, assemble my first computer.

We have not yet checked for compability.

This is what I've settled on so far:

2 x 2 GB (4 GB) / DUAL RAM / DDR II SDRAM / PC2-6400CL5 / 800 MHz

What I'm still missing is:
- A cheap, but reliable power supply (500W or 750W?)
- A chassis. Light-weight and sturdy for LAN'ing, dust repelling (it's gonna need it), compability with the above parts, and it has to look damn cool.
- A harddrive. My 200 GB was filled up ages ago. Again, cheap and reliable.

First criticism... On the hard drive side... for storage you should be using a cheap large capacity external. For the purpose of OS and applications/games you should be running a raptor.

Second peice of criticism is that I can find no proof that the processor you have cited even exists...but its probably just a new cheaper version of the kensfield. IF that is so, then disregard this.

Third piece of criticism is this: If you're honestly going to buy a good video card, don't buy that one. Your motherboard also looks expensive for what you're likely to get out of it. Going with an ASUS Striker series like this one:

And grabbing an NVidia 8800 Series card will get you better results for the same or less.

Gig, I believe your a designer, or some form of that. You need to decide the OS your going to run, and build the PC around it. There are many options available for both. 1600 FSB is good. You decide on the Video Card, be sure to review how they work, there is a lot of information out there on about anything relative to this post. READ.

You seem to want to spend a good amount on it, so don't short yourself by not researching. Also, you have a good idea, especially when it comes to brands.
