After three years of service, my old piece of machinery can no longer keep up, and it is time for a replacement.
To allow more customization and because I lack the funds to do otherwise, I'm gonna buy all parts individually, and with Waxbear by my side, assemble my first computer.
We have not yet checked for compability.
This is what I've settled on so far:
Motherboard:
ASUS Maximus Formula Republic of Gamers
LGA775 Socket / Intel X38 Express / 1600 MHz / ATX / DDR II SDRAM
Soundboard / 7.1 surroundchannel / SupremeFX II
Networkadapter / Ethernet / Fast Ethernet / Gigabit Ethernet
Socket 775 / 2 x PCI-32 / 3 x PCI-Express / 4 x DDR-RAM / 2 x PCI Express 2.0
2 x RJ-45 / 1 x PS/2 / 6 x USB 2.0 / 1 x FireWire 400 / 7 x Audio
Approx. 340$
Processor:
Core 2 Quad Q9300
2.5 GHz / 1333 MHz
6 MB L2 cache
Approx. 375$
Graphic Card:
ASUS EAH3870 TOP/G/HTDI
ATI Radeon HD 3870 / PCI Express 2.0 x16
512 MB GDDR4 SDRAM / 2.28 GHz
Approx. 340$
Memory:
Corsair XMS2 2 x 2 GB
2 x 2 GB (4 GB) / DUAL RAM / DDR II SDRAM / PC2-6400CL5 / 800 MHz
Approx. 130$
What I'm still missing is:
- A cheap, but reliable power supply (500W or 750W?)
- A chassis. Light-weight and sturdy for LAN'ing, dust repelling (it's gonna need it), compability with the above parts, and it has to look damn cool.
- A harddrive. My 200 GB was filled up ages ago. Again, cheap and reliable.
Taking criticism and suggestions!
Thanks!
