So I'm at my college waiting around for a night class that I haven't paid for yet. I have about 4-5 more classes to go until I'll have my BS in IT. I"m taking one class a semester and working full time for the government. My position there is descent...I'm on the management chain for OPM.GOV (Office of Personal Management). HOWEVER... I hate school. I have a ton of UNIX sysadmin experience, web development experience (mainly developing web-based applications with PHP, JSP, etc). Anywho... I have the books for a CISCO cert and Sun Micrsystems SysAdmin cert. Shoudl I use my school money and get those instead and try and get a job in my field? ORRRR should I go to my class... !#!$!$!$!@$!@$!$ My head hurts...stress.... HURRY I HAVE AN HOUR!!! |

a degree is way better than no degree. Benji you got what 4-5 classes left? just finish the shit and u never have to do it again. Get that piece of paper, it also shows comitment and that you have the ability to learn which is very important. There will be a time in your life when you will be glad u finished it. |

2 years is nothing in the grand scheme of your entire life. You are THIS close to being done, so I would not give up. And like Hackle said, its better to have than not to have. Also Hackle likes boys... |

GO TO CLASS look at it this way, either you go to class, or you don't and get a bunch of pompous jackasses that think you're an idiot just because you don't have a peice of paper. |

go to class... AND get your certs! certs make the world go round, but a degree is a nice foundation. But you could just turn it into an AS now probably, which would be enough with the right certifications, if it's going to take you a full two more years -after- this semester. |

UM... sorry to say this... but in todays IT field... a degree dont mean SHIT! How do I know. Its my job. I am on the hiring end of things and ppl who come to me with a degree have the same shot as some 1 w/o. Whats the deal breaker.... CERTIFICATIONS! I shit you not, a certification holds more weight than a degree. HOWEVER, being as close as you are I would just finish school, then get certified afterwards. Or cert first then degree. Either way, you're too close to a degree to talk away now. just my 2cents |
